Improving the Accuracy & Speed of Translations with Neural Machine Translation
IBM’s dedication to machine translation has been demonstrated throughout our history, from our early contributions in the 1950s to the development of statistical machine translation in the 1980s. The importance of facilitating easier communication across language barriers grows with every passing decade, and for that reason, we’re proud to announce the latest improvement to our language translator service: Neural Machine Translation (NMT).
Now generally available, our Neural Machine Translation technology comes standard in the IBM Watson Language Translator service. NMT is an advanced machine translation method based on deep learning, the development of which has led to remarkable improvements in translation fluency and the achievement of higher human evaluations. The integration of NMT models into our service means clients will experience more natural, quality translations at improved speeds. As a result, our users can improve their global engagement and influence faster and easier than ever before.
For international enterprises, language translation is essential in scaling communication and spurring collaboration across borders. For example, a Fortune 500 professional services company has started using Watson Language Translator’s NMT to build a global HR portal. They plan to deploy this tool in 50+ countries to empower employees around the world with easy access to HR messages and policies in their native languages.
By default, each new user will gain access to our NMT technology for all language pairs in the following languages and dialects: Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
