Will Threaten Drupal & WordPress with its Headless CMS?, a pioneer in headless content management system (CMS) technology, released native mobile Software Development Kits (SDKs) for Contentstack last week.

Neha Sampat, CEO at Contentstack, the company’s award winning headless content management system (CMS), was one of the earliest players in the market by creating the JSON data which enables developers to build content-rich sites. Content creators are empowered to manage content without the need of a developer and required training thus allowing developers to create separate cross-platform apps and take advantage of a headless CMS, which delivers content through APIs.

With the recent mobile SDKs launch for Android and iOS, aims to make data integration from Contentstack easier and available as an online calculator to allow direct comparisons of costs and return-on-investment (ROI) to legacy CMS solutions, such as Drupal or WordPress.

Highlights for Content Managers

  • Asset Tagging:  Assets refer to all media files (images, videos, PDFs, audio files, and so on) uploaded to Contentstack. Once a file has been uploaded to assets, it can be used for multiple entries. Assets can be published individually and utilize the new feature, asset tagging, which allows users to publish assets such as employee pictures, downloadable case studies, product images, etc. with specific tags. As a result, assets can be filtered and displayed based on their tags, publish status and/or file type.

  • Content Type Labels: Similar content types and recurring page elements, such as a page footer, community or support sections, can be grouped, searched, sorted and filtered by using content type labels in order to cut down on web properties management.

Highlights for Developers

  • Drag-and-Drop Content Type Builder: Developers are able to create structural page elements quickly with this upgraded feature. As a result, the creation of corresponding page structure becomes ten times faster. It means that the feature makes traditional web content management more agile and simpler, compared to both legacy enterprise vendors and open source alternatives.

  • New Separate API Consoles for Content Management and Content Delivery: This redesigned feature allows developers to enable headless CMS use cases by integrating content via APIs and managing such content in a mobile or IoT app.

  • Native SDKs: In the past was only offering a JavaScript SDK which could connect to its APIs. Now, developers can take advantage of the new native SDKs to run their mobile apps.

  • Contentstack Express Framework: This is the first and only feature in the industry. It separates the CMS from the website itself, so developers can deliver more accurate time estimation and reliable work as they no longer need to rely on data extracted directly from the CMS and its database.

The Competitive Edges Contentstack is a recommended product for mostly midsize organizations to large enterprise businesses. Many large corporations have started to implement microsites and mobile apps to provide content for the sake of prioritized needs and distinctive use. This product can be used to manage an organization's primary web domain as well as a part of a larger marketing/technology strategy, as its marketing and analytics integrations are lightweight and easy to add and remove, without bloating the core CMS. Contentstack also eliminates heavy involvement for IT teams and webmasters. The starting price of the product is $24,000 a year.

"Content management is all about delivering the right information to the right destination at the right time," said Jeff Yoshimura, VP of Worldwide Marketing at "With the latest updates to's headless CMS we can operate much faster and at a fraction of the cost compared to legacy CMS providers. We can connect to any data source, support today's and tomorrow's digital channels, and scale our operations with confidence."

Alla Oks, the Marketing and Lead Generation Director at Echelon, states: “It’s a very easy-to-use and intuitive system. We needed a complex, advanced site with a lot of custom requirements and Contentstack was able to handle them all.”

The company’s technology is already being used by leading Fortune 500 companies and governments around the world in order to deliver a better digital experience. It seems like aims to challenge Drupal and WordPress with its headless CMS after all. In the forthcoming days, we all will see the impact of this release on the enterprise content management market.
